Method to Blur BACKGROUND behind a Text in Premiere Pro

To hide or blur only a moving text (such as email, name, password) in video, select the clip in timeline, then in Effects panel, search ‘blur’ and double click or drag Gaussian Blur or Camera Blur over video clip.

Bring playhead at the start of clip.

Watch Video Tutorial.

Now in Effect Controls, select Rectangle shape. Bring the mask over text. Temporarily, reduce the opacity.

Method to Blur BACKGROUND behind a Text in Premiere Pro

Click on Mask to display its guidelines in program monitor.

Press Shift to select two vertex points at once and then drag them to fit mask over text. Adjust the size and position of mask.

Now in Effect Controls, click on forward tracking.

Premiere Pro will analyze and track the movement of text.

If Premiere pro fails to track the text, then remove specific keyframes in timeline view (on the right side of Effect Controls panel). Now you should continuously click the one frame track button (next to mask name) in Effect Controls panel, meanwhile I will continue adjusting the mask over the target text.

Now, you can increase the opacity.

You have successfully blurred (censored) the text in video.

However, if you want to hide the background behind this text (whie showing only a text), then in Effect Controls, select the Inverted box. This action will show only a specific text but it will blur or fade the whole background behind that text.
