User's Guide to the Turkish Typing Speed Test (Türkçe Yazma Hızı Testi Kullanıcı Kılavuzu)

Developing fast and accurate typing (hızlı ve doğru yazma) skills can significantly boost your productivity, improve communication, and save you valuable time every day. Our free Turkish typing test (Ücretsiz Türkçe Klavye Testi/Klavye Pratiği) is a simple yet powerful tool designed to help you measure your current skill level and provide consistent typing practice (yazma alıştırması) to help you improve.

How to Effectively Use the Test (Testi Etkili Bir Şekilde Nasıl Kullanılır)

Getting started is easy. The interface is designed to be clean and intuitive, allowing you to jump right into your typing practice session.

Step 1: Customize Your Session (Oturumunuzu Özelleştirin)

Before you begin, you can tailor the test to your preferences. Look for the option buttons located just above the main text area.

  • Test Mode (Test Modu): You can choose between Paragraph mode (Paragraf modu) to type a full block of text, simulating real-world writing, or Words mode (Kelimeler modu) to practice with a sequence of common Turkish words.

  • Test Duration (Test Süresi): Select your desired test length. You can choose a quick 30-second sprint, a standard 60-second test, or a longer 120-second session for endurance.

Step 2: Start the Test (Testi Başlatın)

Once you've selected your options, click the green "Start Test" button. The typing area below the sample text will immediately activate, and a cursor will indicate where you should begin.

Step 3: Begin Typing (Yazmaya Başlayın)

As you type, the test provides you with live feedback:

  • Correct characters will be highlighted in green.

  • Incorrect characters will be highlighted in red, with a cross mark (x) above them.

If you make a mistake, you don't need to hit backspace. The test is designed to measure your forward-typing flow. Simply type the correct character to proceed. The timer in the top right will show your remaining time.

Step 4: View Your Results (Sonuçlarınızı Görüntüleyin)

The test automatically ends when the timer runs out or if you successfully type the entire text provided. Your performance report will instantly appear below the test area. If you want to abandon a test mid-way, you can click the "Restart Test" button or select a new option to start a fresh session.

Understanding Your Performance Metrics (Performans Metriklerinizi Anlama)

To improve typing speed (yazma hızını artırmak), you need to understand the feedback. Our test provides key metrics to help you track your progress.

  • KDM (WPM - Kelime Dakikada): This is your net typing speed, the most important metric for job applications and overall proficiency. It is calculated by taking your total speed and subtracting a penalty for any errors made, giving you a true measure of your useful and productive typing speed. For standardization, one "word" is counted as five characters.

  • VPM (CPM - Vuruş Per Minüt): This is your gross typing speed. It measures the total number of characters you type per minute, including any mistakes. This metric provides a detailed look at your raw keystroke speed.

  • Accuracy (Doğruluk): This is a simple percentage that shows how many characters you typed correctly versus the total number of characters you typed. Aiming for an accuracy of 95% or higher is a great goal.

  • Errors (Hatalar): This is a straightforward count of every incorrect key you pressed during the test.

Average and Fast Typing Speed (Türkçede Ortalama ve Hızlı Yazma Hızı)

Due to Turkish being an agglutinative language (where suffixes are added to base words), word lengths can become very long. This makes character-based metrics more reliable for professional assessment.

  • Average Speed: A typical native Turkish user types at around 40-55 WPM (Dakikada Kelime Sayısı - DKS). In professional terms, this translates to 200-280 CPM (Dakikada Vuruş Sayısı - DVS, meaning "keystrokes per minute").

  • Fast Speed: A speed above 65 WPM is considered fast. For competitive and professional roles, typists are often expected to exceed 80-90 WPM. This corresponds to a fast character speed of 350 DVS and above.

Hiring Criteria: WPM vs. CPM

This is a particularly interesting case. While many private sector jobs that are data-entry heavy will use a CPM/DVS metric for its accuracy, the most prominent and standardized typing test in the country uses a unique "net words" metric.

The official standard for most government clerical jobs is a practical exam where the goal is to type a certain number of correct words from a given text within a set time, with penalties for errors. So, while CPM is understood, the most famous hiring criterion is actually based on net words typed in three minutes.

Minimum Typing Speed Requirement (Türkçede Minimum Yazma Hızı Gereksinimi)

The most well-known and high-stakes typing test in Turkey is the one for civil service positions within the Ministry of Justice (Adalet Bakanlığı).

Example Requirement:

  • Organization: Turkish Ministry of Justice (Adalet Bakanlığı)

  • Role: Court Clerk (Zabıt Kâtibi)

  • Requirement: The practical keyboard exam (klavye sınavı) is a crucial step in the hiring process. The official and long-standing minimum requirement is for a candidate to type at least 90 net correct words in three minutes.

Analysis: This requirement translates to a minimum speed of 30 WPM. While this may seem low, it's a high-pressure qualifying exam where accuracy is paramount. The "net word" count means that any errors (wrong words, misspellings, extra words) are deducted from the total, so a candidate typing 100 words with 11 incorrect words would fail. The top candidates in these exams often type well over 120-150 net words in the three-minute period, demonstrating a much higher actual WPM.

Dozro’ Test

While our test does not use the specific "net word" calculation, our combination of WPM (based on correct characters), CPM, Accuracy %, and total Error Count provides a comprehensive and internationally recognized measure of a user's typing ability. It effectively measures speed and precision, which are the same goals as the Turkish exam.
