How to Use the InScript Keyboard

Typing and Switching Languages

The keyboard defaults to the Marathi InScript layout. This layout is based on the structure of the Devanagari script.

• Vowels (स्वर): Full, independent vowels are on the Shift layer of the keys on the left side of the keyboard (e.g., Shift + e produces आ).

• Vowel Signs (मात्रा): The un-shifted keys on the left side produce the vowel signs (e.g., e produces the ा sign).

• Consonants (व्यंजन): These are on the right side (e.g., the k key types क).

• Halant ( ् ): The d key types the halant mark (also known as virama), which creates a pure consonant. For example, to type क्, you press k followed by d.

• Consonant-Vowel Combinations: To create a full syllable, type the consonant first, then the vowel sign. For example, to type का, you press k (for क) and then e (for the ा sign).

To switch between Marathi and English, click the Eng/मराठी button.

Using the Shift Key

The Shift key gives you access to a secondary layer of characters.

• In English Mode: Produces uppercase letters.

• In Marathi Mode:

  • Aspirated Consonants: It produces the aspirated (or "stressed") version of consonants. For example, k produces क, while Shift + k produces ख.

Voice Typing and Other Tools

Voice Typing (Speech-to-Text)

1. Click the Microphone (🎤) button to start voice typing.

2. Your browser may ask for permission to use your microphone. Please click "Allow".

3. The status message will show "Listening..." Start speaking clearly in your selected language.

4. Your spoken words will be converted into text.

• Language Recognition: The speech-to-text engine is configured for specific dialects to improve accuracy.

  • Marathi Mode: Uses language code mr-IN for Indian Marathi.

  • English Mode: Uses language code en-IN for Indian English. If this is not supported, it will use en-US as a fallback.

Auto Punctuation

• The Auto Punct. button helps you end sentences quickly. When activated, it will automatically add the appropriate punctuation mark (a period . for English or a danda । for Marathi) and a space after you finish speaking with the voice typing feature.

• Text Management: Use Undo, Redo, Copy, and Clear All to manage your text efficiently.

Translate Feature

How it Works:

• Steps:

2. Click or tap the Translate button.

3. If the text area is empty, a temporary message "Type text first!" will appear, and no new tab will open.

4. If there is text in the text area, a new browser tab will automatically open, redirecting you to Google Translate.

5. Your typed text will be pre-filled into Google Translate's input field.

6. Google Translate will automatically detect the source language of your text.

7. The translation will be displayed in the automatically selected target language (English if Marathi keyboard was active, Marathi if English keyboard was active).

Important Note for Mobile Users:

On mobile devices with the Google Translate app, clicking "Translate" might open the installed app instead of the web page, and it may not pre-fill your text. To work around this, click "Copy" first to save your text, then "Translate," and paste it in the app.

Physical Keyboard Synchronization

This virtual keyboard will synchronize with your physical keyboard. If you use the Shift or Caps Lock keys on your physical keyboard, the characters on the virtual keyboard will change accordingly. When you press an English letter on your physical keyboard, it will be converted into a Marathi character when using the Marathi virtual keyboard.
