English Virtual Keyboard (QWERTY) Usage Guide with Voice Typing & Emoji Icons

Welcome to our enhanced English virtual keyboard by Dozro! This guide will help you efficiently use its features, including the new voice typing capability and updated button designs.

1. Basic Typing

• Letters, Numbers, and Symbols: Simply click or tap the keys to input characters into the text area above the keyboard.

2. Modifier Keys: Shift, Caps Lock & Alt Gr

• Shift:

  • Letters: Tap Shift once to type the next letter in uppercase. It will automatically revert to lowercase after one character.

  • Symbols/Numbers: Tap Shift once, then tap a number or symbol key to type its alternative (upper) character (e.g., 1 becomes !, 7 becomes &).

  • Shift Lock: Rapidly tap Shift twice to lock it (similar to Caps Lock, but affects all characters). Tap again to unlock. The key will turn green when active.

• Caps Lock:

  • Tap Caps Lock once to activate uppercase typing for letters (the key will turn green). All subsequent letters typed will be in uppercase.

  • Tap Caps Lock again to deactivate uppercase typing.

  • Note: Caps Lock only affects letters (A-Z). It does not change numbers or symbols.

• Alt Gr:

  • Tap Alt Gr to access special symbols often found on international keyboards, typically in the lower-right corner of some keys.

  • The Alt Gr key will turn orange when active. It acts as a momentary key, deactivating itself after a character is typed.

3. Action and Utility Row (Top Row)

This row provides essential editing and utility functions:

• Undo: Reverts your last typing or editing action.

• Redo: Reapplies an action you had previously undone.

• Copy:

  • If you have text selected in the box, it copies only the selected text.

  • If no text is selected, it copies all text from the box.

  • A "Copied!" message will briefly appear for confirmation.

• Delete: Acts like a Backspace key. It deletes the character immediately before your cursor. If you have text selected, it deletes the entire selection.

• Clear All: Deletes all text from the typing area. Use with caution.

• Emoji (😀):

  • This round button with a smiling face emoji toggles the emoji panel on/off. When active, the main keyboard will hide, and an emoji grid will appear.

  • Mobile Scrolling: On mobile devices, you can now scroll the emoji panel by dragging your finger without accidentally inserting an emoji. Simply drag to scroll, and tap an emoji to insert it.

  • After selecting an emoji, the panel automatically closes, and the main keyboard reappears.

• Voice (🎤):

  • This round button with a microphone icon initiates or stops voice typing. See the dedicated section below for more details.

4. Cursor Navigation Row (Second Row)

These buttons help you move your typing cursor precisely within the text:

• ← (Left Arrow): Moves the cursor one character to the left.

• → (Right Arrow): Moves the cursor one character to the right.

• Home: Moves the cursor to the beginning of the current line.

• End: Moves the cursor to the end of the current line.

5. Voice Typing Feature

The Voice (🎤) button allows you to input text using your microphone.

• How to Use:

  1. Click or tap the Voice (🎤) button.

  2. Your browser might ask for microphone permission. Grant it to proceed.

  3. A "Listening... Speak now." message will appear below the text area, and the Voice (🎤) button will turn a darker red, indicating it's active.

  4. Speak clearly into your microphone.

  5. As you speak, your words will appear in the text area. The system will automatically stop listening after a short pause in your speech.

  6. The Voice (🎤) button will return to its normal state, and the status message will disappear.

  7. You can also manually stop voice typing at any time by clicking the Voice (🎤) button again or by typing on the virtual or physical keyboard.

• Important Notes:

  • Browser Compatibility: Voice typing relies on the Web Speech API, which is best supported in Google Chrome. It also supports Microsoft Edge. The Voice Typing Keyboard also works perfect in mobile browsers. It might not work in some browsers.

  • Microphone Access: Ensure your browser has permission to access your microphone. If you encounter errors, check your browser's site settings.

  • Clarity: Speak clearly and at a moderate pace for best accuracy.
