Squarespace Assign Styles – Apply Custom Font Style to a Page or a Text Element

Select Edit on top of preview page and then click ‘Paint Brush’ icon on the top right side in Squarespace to open Site Styles, and select Fonts.

You can see ‘Assign Styles’ option on the bottom of ‘Fonts’ panel in Squarespace.

Is It Necessary to Customize Font Settings through Assign Styles in Squarespace?

In fact, you do not need to customize text tweaks through Assign Styles, after completing your font customizations under Global Text Styles, in four categories of headings, miscellaneous, buttons and paragraphs.

Squarespace Assign Styles – Apply Custom Font Style to a Page or a Text Element

However, Assign Styles section allows you one-step further customization of font styles, to give some unique look to specific pages and elements on your Squarespace website.

Through Assign Styles, changes apply only to specific pages (blog, store) and specific types of text blocks, across website. Therefore, it behaves differently from tweaks under Global Text Styles, where changes apply to all over website.

Which Text Elements and Pages in Squarespace Allow Assigning Specific Font Styles?

You cannot use Assign Styles section to customize font styles for all elements, for example, it does not provide customizations for description text of images. However, you can use Assign Styles, for font tweaks in following types of pages and elements:

  • Quote Block

  • Newsletter

  • Site Header

  • Forms

  • Menu Block

  • Blog Main Page

  • Blog Post Pages

  • Store Page

  • Store Product Pages

Basic Rules of Assign Styles

After you click Assign Styles, tweaks will only appear after you have inserted specific element and page is opened.

For example, to see tweak options for quotes, first, you must insert quote block on the page and that page must be opened.

For another example, tweak options for blog post will only appear when you first open the blog post and then access Assign Styles. Any changes will apply to all blog posts.

In Assign Styles of a new template, you only see one option of Site Header, because site header is already applied on all pages.

Two Ways to Access Specific Font Elements Under Assign Styles

You can access Assign Style Tweaks in Squarespace through following two ways:

  1. Open a page or element - such as blog, store page or quote block - in preview window. Now select Assign Styles under Fonts panel. You will be able to customize all available font tweaks.

  2. Another way is to click a specific element in preview to directly access the respective tweak. For example, if you click on title of blog post inside preview, it will automatically open tweaks options, only for title of blog post, on the right side in title panel.

Please remember that through second method, font styling options (Assign Styles) will only appear if:

  • Fonts panel is already opened.

  • You have clicked specific text element in preview.

For example, specific font styling options for quotes will only appear, after ‘Fonts’ panel on the right is already opened and you have clicked the quote inside preview.
