Squarespace URL mapping method - Blog Post and External Affiliate Website

I will explain here the following two scenarios.

• URL mapping for deleted blog post and direct it to a new main blog page.

• URL mapping to send traffic to external affiliate website (detail below).

Squarespace 301 Redirect for Deleted Blog Post to a New Blog Page

For a successful URL redirection, you must delete or disable to old page. You can disable main blog page or a products main page in Squarespace. You cannot disable an item page - blog post or a product page - so, you can delete the collection item page before URL mapping.

To set up a permanent 301 URL redirect for a deleted blog post, click Settings in Squarespace. Then scroll down and select Developer Tools. On the next page, select URL Mappings.

First paste the old page URL which you have deleted.

In this example, the deleted blog post was the part of a blog page. Then I created a new blog page titled and shifted content from the old blog post to the new blog page.

So, now add a space. Then paste the dash arrow [->]. Add another space after the arrow.

Now paste the new URL which will replace the deleted link. Add a space and then type 301. For temporary redirect, you can also type here 302.

Now remove the domain text (including https) from both URLs. Please note that if you are redirecting to another website, then do not remove the domain of second URL.

Because I am redirecting a link to another page of the same website, therefore, I will delete the domain part of both URLs, as shown in tutorial.

I selected the first domain and deleted it. Then I selected the second domain and deleted it.

Now our URL redirect setup is ready. So, click on the Save button. Wait few minutes. In my several tests, I can confirm that the URL redirection in Squarespace is implemented almost instantly.

To test it, I pasted the old URL in browser. You can see in video that browser automatically replaced it with the new URL.

It means the Squarespace URL redirection for blog pages is successful.

Here is common question.

Is it necessary to delete or disable the previous (old) link before URL redirect setup?

Answer: No. It is not necessary. You can either remove the discarded link before the URL mapping or after it. I have tested the both ways and it worked. However, you must remove (delete) it anyways.

Squarespace 301 Redirect Example for Affiliate Link

Please follow the following easy steps.

• Generate affiliate link. For example, I created this affiliate link → [https://www.anrdoezrs.net/ks82hz74z6MONNWUVNNUMOSUQSSRN] from CJ, for this page → [https://www.movavi.com/] of advertiser (Movavi) website. You can watch this video for the method to create affiliate link in CJ.

• Now decide a display webpage on your Squarespace website for redirection. For example, I decided this page → [https://www.dozro.com/movavi]. Whenever, a visitor will hover over this affiliate link on my website, browser will display this clean and trustworthy link at the bottom left of the computer screen, but when the user will actually click on this display link, browser will open this page → [https://www.movavi.com/] of the advertiser website. Please note that I have not actually created this display page → [https://www.dozro.com/movavi] on my website. If you have already created such page, you must delete it.

• In your Squarespace website, navigate to → Settings → Developer Tools → URL Mappings.

• On URL Mappings page, enter the links in proper format. For example, in this instance, I entered /movavi -> https://www.anrdoezrs.net/ks82hz74z6MONNWUVNNUMOSUQSSRN 301

• Click Save and test the link. It should be working.
