What is the true value of Corel VideoStudio?
It is noteworthy, that both VideoStudio Pro and VideoStudio Ultimate are perpetual plans – you retain it for lifetime without paying for each year. After each year, the next version is launched and it is your choice to upgrade or not. You can upgrade your version for a discounted price. Based on my own experience, generally, you do not need any new features in software, at least for the next 3 or 4 years.
Personally, I would prefer the VideoStudio Ultimate plan because it is only around $15 more expensive than the VideoStudio Pro plan.
What about the Photo Video Editor Bundle Ultimate plan?
This discounted bundle plan includes VideoStudio and PaintShop Pro Ultimate – the software options for photo editing, as well as video editing.
Although, you can perform the basic photo editing in a video editing software, for example, I created a YouTube thumbnail image in a video editor.
However, it is also a fact that for professional photo editing, you often feel the need for a dedicated software.
Therefore, if you already use a graphic design software (such as Photoshop), then you have no need for the PaintShop Pro Ultimate. However, if you have no other photo editing software, then you can buy the bundle plan to professionally edit photos, and create flyers, brochures, banners – in addition to editing videos.
The PaintShop Pro Ultimate is as advanced as the Photoshop but much easier to use than the Photoshop.

In my assessment, the software is great but neglected by the company – if the company can invest to improve the user interface, imitate the content marketing of Wondershare, and introduce some new fancy AI features, it can compete effectively with any other video editing program.
Their marketing team also looks lazy, because, on the main product landing page, it is nowhere mentioned that software purchase has the perpetual (lifetime) license – in fact, in my opinion, it is the powerful selling point of VideoStudio. On the other hand, Adobe Premiere Pro does not offer any perpetual use license.
Screen Recording
VideoStudio has a full featured screen recorder which they call Live Screen Capture tool. You can record a single screen or record dual screens (primary and secondary monitor) simultaneously. You can screen record the multiple cameras from your webinar. It enables you record either the full screen or a custom part of screen. This is a good feature for creating tutorial videos. This feature is not available in some other popular video editors such as Adobe Premiere Pro.
Live Stream
It is worth mentioning that like Filmora and Movavi, VideoStudio also has no capability to broadcast live streams on social media. Whereas, using the CyberLink PowerDirector, you can directly live stream on YouTube, Twitch etc.
Multicam Editing
You can combine sync and edit the original video footage from multiple cameras into a single video. The Multi-Camera Editor tool of VideoStudio has almost similar functions as in PowerDirector. You can display multiple video footage side by side and select them back and forth to include in the single video. It can automatically sync the audio and video, or you can manually match them. A dedicated multicam editing tool is not available in Movavi and Filmora – although some workarounds are there.
Through MultiCam Capture tool, you can simultaneously record screen and webcam, and then edit each and choose a preferred view to show in video – a great option for creating how-to tutorials, training videos, or product unboxing videos.
Motion Tracking
VideoStudio has the pro level of Motion Tracking ability to track the movement of an object but the learning curve in VideoStudio is steep as compared with Filmora or PowerDirector. VideoStudio lacks the AI motion tracking tool (easy to use), found in competitor software.
In Corel VideoStudio, you can manually customize the motion of overlays such as an image or text title. For example, you can mention the name of player and the name text will follow the position of that player in the playground.
VideoStudio is capable of advanced keyframing which provides precise control for manually tracking a motion. You can track multiple objects at once.
Time Remapping
Corel VideoStudio has the Time Remapping tool for speed ramping – for applying slow motion or high-speed effects to a ame video clip. More controls including Freeze Frame and Reverse (play backwards) a video are also available. It is as easy to use as in any other video editing software. However, after editing a clip using time remapping tool, its audio will be lost.
Some other video editing tools such as Movavi lacks the speed ramping capability.
Audio Editing
Corel VideoStudio provides advanced level audio editing options, including sound mixer, recording voiceover, audio ducking, audio stretch, noise removal, audio cues, royalty-free music, along with the basic audio editing functionality including splitting audio, detaching audio from video, merging audio, muting audio track. You can apply keyframes and time remapping to an audio clip.
Filmora has more audio editing features than VideoStudio, for example vocal remover and silence detector.
360-degree Video Editing
VideoStudio offers the powerful 360-degree video editing tools. You can import 360 VR degree video in timeline to edit it. You can add text title and the text will also amazingly adopt the 360 effect. You can easily add music and other effects to it. You can then export it, to either watch on a VR handset or upload it to YouTube. VideoStudio also empowers you to convert a 360° video to the standard video.
CyberLink PowerDirector can also edit 360 videos with outclass results. Filmora and Movavi lack the capability to edit 360 videos.
Transitions
Corel VideoStudio boasts an impressive collection of transitions (for example peel, roll, push, split, slide, peel, cross-dissolve), especially Morph transitions, Seamless transitions, and the new Parallax transitions. VideoStudio offers free-to-use transitions audio and video. Hover over a transition to view its animated style. Apply a transition by simply dragging and dropping it over the division line between any two clips. You can set the transition duration to the minimum level (0.1 seconds) for seamlessly joining two clips – most other video editors are not capable to this level. You can easily adjust the transition duration by just dragging the edges of of it.
The in-built transition collection in VideoStudio is better than what is available in Adobe Premiere Pro.
Easy Editable Templates
Most features (except keyframing) in VideoStudio are easy to use even for the one with zero experience in video editing. It has a nice collection of premade instant project templates available in popular video styles and sizes (YouTube landscape, Instagram Reels etc). You can also use the Boris FX effects for creating awesome text titles. VideoStudio provides easy methods for editing clips. In VideoStudio, cropping a video is the easiest task. You can digitally beautify yourself by using the face effects.
To get started, click the dedicated Templates button in toolbar menu. Just select your favorite template, then drag and drop your video footage over it and your edited video is ready to save in seconds. VideoStudio has easy to use but stunning templates for creating photo slideshow. You can also build your own templates for reusing them in future video projects. You can also try the split screen templates as well as the overlay templates.
Advance Text and Color Editing
VideoStudio offers all required options for text customizations which includes adding border, rotation, shadow, motion, backdrop, and transparency to ta text as well as resizing and coloring of text. Like Filmora, in VideoStudio you can apply beautiful 3D text effect to any text.
VideoStudio provides color editing feature for both beginners as well as for pro video editors. If you are novice in video editing, you can use the auto color enhance (Auto Tone option) in VideoStudio through a single click. If you are pro, you can use the advanced color grading features in VideoStudio, that too with easy sliders.
AI Tools
Corel VideoStudio has limited AI functions. VideoStudio has Speech to Text tool (for creating captions) but it supports only some major languages but not all – Filmora supports more languages. VideoStudio lacks the Text-to-Speech (TTS) tool for creating AI voiceover, AI Reframe tool, and AI background remover – all are found in Filmora.
Adjustment Layer
VideoStudio lacks the adjustment layer which is available in Adobe Premiere Pro, and Filmora. Adjustment layer becomes time saver for applying same effects to multiple clips simultaneously.
8K Support
Like PowerDirector, the VideoStudio also supports 8K video import into timeline for editing - but not the 8K export. Please remember that, for editing 8K videos, a computer having powerful specs is required. Secondly, there is almost no difference between the screen quality of a 4K video versus an 8K video. Even Adobe Premiere Pro requires the use Media Encoder to import and edit Ultra HD videos but Premiere Pro cannot export in 8K except after using some external plugins.
GIF Creation
Although you can easily generate GIFs in other programs but creating GIFs is a breeze through the GIF Creator of VideoStudio. To highlight something special, select a little part from your video footage and transform it into a looping GIF.
Keyframing
VideoStudio has powerful keyframing capability. In my opinion, it has better keyframing controls than those in Movavi. Keyframing is used precise manual control in various video editing tasks such as motion tracking, animation, and masking.
No Stock Integrations
Although VideoStudio provides huge free options of preloaded stock elements of music, animations, transitions but it has no built-in integrations for external stock websites (like Unsplash, Pexels) for the use of additional stock files. However, you may get Studio Backlot membership for additional stock elements in VideoStudio.
No Cloud Storage
You find no option in VideoStudio to store your video files online in cloud storage. But cloud storage is available in Premiere Pro, PowerDirector, and Filmora. By the way, I do not prefer to use the cloud service of a video editing program – check the reason.
Additionally, Filmora and PowerDirector provide faster rendering and export than that of VideoStudio.
No Vocal Remover
Corel VideoStudio lacks the feature of vocal remover – to separate instrumental music and vocals in a song. On the other hand, Filmora is the only video editing software which has built-in free AI Vocal Remover, with impressive results.

The VideoStudio of Corel has poor rating on Trustpilot with score of 1.3. Their customer support seems to me very lazy because they are too careless to respond to those customer reviews.

VideoStudio is more affordable than the other expensive software such as the Premiere Pro – but a bit more expensive than Filmora. The primary and necessary features such as masking, advanced video stabilization (proDAD Mercalli), color grading are made part of the VideoStudio Ultimate package which is more expensive than the Pro plan. Other useful features which are available only in VideoStudio Ultimate include, Stop Motion Animation, Freeze Frame, MXF (XAVC) Import, HEVC Import and Export, and Ultra HD (4K) video support.
However, the good thing about the VideoStudio pricing plans, is that you get lifetime license – which proves cheaper for long term.

Recommended Computer Specs for VideoStudio
Please note that following are my own recommendations, based on my years of experience in video editing. VideoStudio can run on much lower specs than what I recommended here. More powerful system (computer) is better for fast rendering and export of your video project, especially if you use more than three video tracks in timeline or you apply too many effects (motion, color) on a single track.
👉️ CPU Processor – I recommend at least Core i7. Whereas the minimum requirement of VideoStudio is Intel Core i3 processor and Core i7 for HD and 4K videos. Compare prices of Intel Core i5, i7, and i9 processor on Amazon.
👉️ Graphics Processor (GPU) – You should prefer any NVIDIA RTX series with vRAM of at least 6 GB. I personally use dedicated NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 with 12 GB memory. Whereas VideoStudio requires minimum 512 MB vRAM but for HD and 4K videos, you need more powerful GPU.
👉️ RAM Memory – at least 16 GB. The RAM of my own PC is 32 GB. Whereas VideoStudio requires minimum 4 GB RAM but recommends minimum 8 GB RAM for editing HD and 4K videos.
👉️ SSD Storage Memory – I recommend at least 512 GB SSD for editing videos of HD and and 4K resolution but an SSD with 1 TB capacity will be the best option. Check computer SSD drive prices on Amazon.
👉️ HDD Storage Memory – Your computer should also have a Hard Drive (HDD) of good storage capacity with faster speed. I use 2 TB for overall needs of storing data. Please note that VideoStudio video editing software requires 10 GB hard drive memory for installation. Check price for internal HDD for laptop and desktop computer on Amazon.
👉️ System Type – x64 based PC is recommended. All modern computers (laptops) have 64-bit operating system. System type 32 bit can only use up to 4 GB of RAM, so not good for video editing tasks. To check it for your computer, open Settings → System → About.
👉️ Monitor – Use at least an HD display monitor with your computer but 4K display monitor is a better choice – Check 4k computer monitors on Amazon. 4K monitor will help for better editing of colors. A monitor with minimum 1920 x 1080 px resolution is a good option for screen recording and creating tutorial videos, so that you can export the final video in the same frame size as in recorded video – without the need for forcibly upscaling (results in blurry display) your original video. VideoStudio requires minimum 1366 x 768 pixel resolution monitor but higher is better.
👉️ Computer Type – Prefer a desktop computer over laptop – because it is easily customizable (for adding more storage or replacing the power unit etc) and its casing can secure a large sized GPU.
