The following features and functions are available in Corel VideoStudio video editor software. The information in this article is accurate and authentic; however, you can help improve it by suggesting necessary edits.

VideoStudio Features

Here, I have enlisted all the remarkable features available in Corel VideoStudio - the video editing software by Corel Corporation.

Masking

Masking is often used to make some portions of video (image, text too) transparent. For example, you can remove the corners of a square photo or video to display or save as a round or more shapes. A mask is also applied to blur the face of a person or the number plate of a car. You can also draw a custom mask around an object to make its surrounds transparent. You can also hide something specific (a text, or mage) from your video. VideoStudio can automatically detect the edges of an object (ex: face, book etc) through brush masking. You can use the advanced Mask Creator tool in VideoStudio to create text or video masks.

Overlays and Animations

VideoStudio provides easy to use overlay templates which are editable. You can add your own logo image or watermark (PiP layer) on your videos to secure from content thieves or copycats. You can install animated transparent overlays in VideoStudio, edit them to customize, and use them over your videos. VideoStudio has also the options of using lower third text overlays as well as split screen overlays.

Variety of animation effects are available to apply on text, image, or video for stunning motion styles – for example you can display your logo as flying while rotating onto the screen. In VideoStudio, you can use the animated overlays and customize them.

Keyframing

In my opinion, when deciding for a video editing software, you should give prime importance to the Keyframing functionality. It is used for creating manual slideshows and motion animations, for example to control the size, time duration, and position of a logo image over the background video. You can split the screen in VideoStudio by adding custom keyframes. It is also used in custom masking and tracking a movement. In fact, keyframing is used for total control in multiple tools. VideoStudio has advanced functionality of keyframing. Through keyframe controls (available in timeline toolbar), you can add, remove, move, jump and reverse a keyframe in VideoStudio. You can also add keyframe nodes to an audio.

Corel VideoStudio Features

Speed Ramping

Apply various speeds to a single clip to make it slow and fast at various durations to capture the attention of viewers. For this functionality, VideoStudio has Time Remapping tool for Variable Speed. For smooth change in motion, you can also select the Ease In/Out options. From the Time Remapping window, other options are also available including Freeze Frame and Reverse (play backwards) a video.

To use speed ramping in VideoStudio, right-click over a video clip and select Time Remapping option from the menu.

Stabilize Shaky Videos

If your original video is shaky caused by camera movements, you can stabilize it to some degree in VideoStudio. For that purpose, select the FX filters menu and then choose proDAD, then from the folder drag the Mercalli filter and drop over your shaky video.

Text Editing Options

VideoStudio offers advanced text formatting options. Write or paste a text (in any language) over the video. Apply any color, size or font style to a text. Beautiful 3D text styles can also be applied to any text in VideoStudio. Various options for text titles (text in beautiful designs with background elements) are available. It has the subtitle editor to create subtitles in YouTube preferred SBV YouTube format. In addition to the basic text formatting options, VideoStudio also provides the options to apply border, rotation, shadow, motion, backdrop, and transparency to a text. You can easily animate a text as like.

Motion Tracking

You can use the Match Motion feature in VideoStudio, to match the motion of overlays with an object on your main video. You can move a text, video clip or image to follow something, for example name a running person in a playground. As another example, you can hide the number plate of a moving car through motion tracking. Sometimes, automatic motion does not work, so you can manually track the motion through keyframes, by using the Customize Motion option in VideoStudio.

To start, just click the clip and select the Track Motion icon in toolbar.

Multicam Editing

You can use the The Multi-Camera Editor in VideoStudio, to combine, sync and edit the original video footage from multiple cameras into a single video. To get started, click the Multi-Camera Editor icon, located in the Timeline toolbar. You can display multiple video footage side by side and select them back and forth to include in the single video. It can automatically sync the audio and video, or you can manually match them. Using the MultiCam Capture tool, you can simultaneously record PC screen and the attached webcam.

Right-Click Menu

In Corel VideoStudio, you can right-click over a video clip (or audio clip) to find many easy-to-apply options including copy, delete, crop mode, resize mode, replace clip, 36 video, rotate, copy attributes, video fade in/out, multi-trim video, speed, motion, audio, and locate on computer. If you right-click over a video or image in the Viewer panel of VideoStudio, you also get easy editing options including Anchor at Top/Center/Bottom, Keep Aspect Ratio, Fit to Screen.

Exports

The export method in VideoStudio is quick for the edited video or only audio. Start by selecting the Share button on top. Save exported video in your computer or directly upload to social platforms (YouTube, Facebook, Flickr, Vimeo). Export video in any frame size such as landscape videos for YouTube, or vertical videos for TikTok, Instagram Reels. You can export video or only the audio into various formats including the popular MP4, MP3, and GIF. You can export video as transparent (alpha) background. You can right-click over a clip and export it without disturbing other clips in the timeline. You can save JPG images (not PNG) from your video in your computer. One thing I really found unique and easy in VideoStudio export settings is that you can simply move slider under the preview to choose preferred portion of your video to export, and then select the β€˜Create Preview Range Only’ option.

Audio Editing

In Corel VideoStudio, you find pro level audio editing features. For example, you can detach audio from a video and either merge it with another video in the timeline or save only the audio in computer. Remove noise from the audio of your video. VideoStudio is equipped with audio remixing features such as automatic syncing of voice with video, sound mixer, audio stretch time stretch (increase audio duration to match with video without changing the pitch), and audio ducking (music track fader for clarity of narration) features are also available.

Various audio filters are also available such removing hiss or clicks from your audio. Just right click over an audio clip to access most features.

Color Editing

You can auto enhance a video (Auto Tone option) in VideoStudio through a single click. It also provides another easy choice for color correction where you can simply select an option from the Brightest, Brighter, Normal, Darker, and Darkest. The options of HSL color tuning and LUTs are also available. You can remove the fisheye distortion captured by camera. VideoStudio provides pro level color grading features. You can also customize the color values of a video (through easy sliders) such as saturation, tint, temperature, clarity, highlights, blacks, whites, vibrance, exposure, brightness, contrast, shadow. To reset any color value just double-click over it. VideoStudio provides quite handy options for temperature value, such as Daylight, and Cloudy. Through color picker tool, you can identify the color of any surface in your video (or photo) and apply the same color to a text, font, or shape. VideoStudio also provides other color correction options including White Balance, Tone Curve, and Color Wheel.

Proxy Video Editing

It is a useful technique, used by many advanced video editing software. VideoStudio creates low-res intermediary files of your HD or 4K footage, for smooth playback in timeline as well as minimizing the chance of software crash. Proxy video editing is especially helpful if your computer has modest specs. It is noteworthy that proxy files are created for temporary use in timeline and have no effect on quality of the exported video.

To activate proxy editing in VideoStudio, click on the Settings (gear icon) button on top left and select the Smart Proxy Manager option.

360-degree Video Editing

Using VideoStudio, you can import 360 degree video in timeline to edit, trim, and add effects, music and titles to it. You can then export it, to either watch on a VR handset or upload it to YouTube. VideoStudio supports 360Β° equirectangular and spherical video formats. Right-click on your video in timeline and find various options for 360 video editing in VideoStudio.

Interface

After launching VideoStudio, you will land on its Home page. You can choose from three custom interface layout options. To record or import videos into software, click the Capture button. You can select the Edit button to display the editing interface which includes several panels like Timeline, and Viewer (Preview). You can change the size of panels – for example, you can increase the viewer panel when needed. For easy selection, you can choose only to show Videos, Audios, or Images in Media Library panel. You can use the easy templates where you can quickly replace the tracks with your own media files.

Trim, Split, Crop, Rotate, Resize and Merge Clips

VideoStudio provides easy methods for editing clips. It has all the necessary tweaks for video editing. You can trim the unwanted portion of a clip (either video or audio by just sliding the clip left or right) or split (cut) the clip into various parts and save the selected parts in between. Join (merge) several clips. Insert a new clip in between two clips. You can crop a video to remove some portions of it and save the desired portion – for example, your original video is filmed from a distance in which a person appears tiny, so you can scale up and crop the side portions in VideoStudio so that the person in video becomes visible. For cropping in VideoStudio, you can either select the scale mode or the crop mode from the Timeline toolbar. The pan & zoom features are also there.

Transitions

In VideoStudio, you can choose transitions from variety of collections including especially Seamless transitions, Morph transitions, and the new Parallax transitions. To join two completely different clips (example: one clip in black background and other clip in white or yellow background), a transition (for example push, fade, slide, peel, split, cross-dissolve) is applied between the clips for smooth shifting in the focus of viewer. Various audio and video transitions in VideoStudio are available. You can select the desired time duration for a transition. You can either apply different transitions at different joints between every two clips or you can repeatedly apply a single transition to all joints in a project.

To add a transition, just select the Transitions (AB icon) from tools, and choose your favorite one. Just drag the edges of a transition in VideoStudio, to adjust its time length.

Background Replacement

Use chroma key to remove green screen background in VideoStudio. You can also remove the background of a complex video through manual masking and keyframing.

Screen Recorder

Using the Live Screen Capture tool, you can record and save what is playing on your computer screen, for example a YouTube video (including voice). Record either full screen or a customized part of your computer screen. You can record even the dual screen through Corel Video Studio. During screen recording, you can enable or disable the microphone audio recording. To use the screen recording, click the Capture button on top, and then select the Live Screen Capture option. You can use the keyboard shortcut keys for pause, resume and stop.

You can directly record video from webcam or record voiceover through the microphone.

Keyboard Shortcuts

For fast editing, you can use various keyboard shortcuts, for example, to cut, copy, save, undo, redo, split, duplicate, adding keyframe. Go to the Help menu and select the Shortcuts option.

Video Collage

Similar to a photo collage, you can split the screen in VideoStudio and simultaneously display (and play) multiple videos on a single screen. VideoStudio has a nice collection of premade split screen templates of Split Screen. the split screen templates

Highlight Reel

The Highlight Reel uses the power of AI for selecting the best portions from your footage and removing the imperfect parts and shots by analyzing the beats of the music. It can instantly create amazing slideshows from your provided media – photos and video clips. You can also manually rearrange the sequence of your images.

Face Effects

No need of a beautician – you can beautify yourself digitally by using the face effects available in VideoStudio. For example, you can brighten up your face, remove scars, tidy up your lips, make your tiny eyes larger. You can apply animated AR stickers in Corel VideoStudio – for example, moustaches or cool glasses decorations on your face.

Free Trial

On their website, Corel offers 30 days free trial and free download of the VideoStudio software, without requiring credit card. It is a cool offer. You may compare the VideoStudio Pricing Plans, at the official Core Store on Amazon.

Corel VideoStudio is available only for Windows computer (laptop, desktop). It has no versions for Mac, Android, and iPhone.
